Colloquy, a gathering for discussion, was the title I chose for the program I curated at @deligallery this past Saturday. While the title served its purpose in giving context for the public program, it has been a part of my life for some time now. I think about every conversation I have and how they manifest beyond verbiage. I think of Isa and Jewel in colloquy as they so happen to mirror each other’s silly gesture in slide 1. I think of Lamb’s extension of each finger in colloquy with the hand laying on the chest of the figure in slide 2. I think of Jewel’s hands in colloquy with one another as they rapidly move with muscle memory in mind on video 3. I think of Jewel’s gaze in colloquy with the still water in video 4 and how despite being driven to silence Kneaku engages in colloquy with Jewel through their collaboration in producing the soundscape that laid scenery for Jewel’s performance. I think of the mic in colloquy with the figures in Sahara’s paintings in slide 5. I think of the table cloth in colloquy with the colors of the painting peaking through the right in slide 6. I think of the man peaking over the CDJ to spot the track I’m playing in colloquy with me on the very last slide. I think of every person dancing to my set and how without words we had a beautiful conversation that closed out an incredibly meaningful day to me. If you’ve made it this far in my rant, I think of how lucky I am to engage in colloquy with you.
