Have wanted to photograph a wine harvest for quite some time, so glad it got to be inland of Santa Cruz with our friends at @wonderwerk.la, who just released their first four wines of the season. Learning that I often like the results when red and white grapes get mixed together, so it was particularly fun to see how one of my favorite wines, Free Your Mind, gets made — the facility shots show carbonic macerated carignan juice getting mixed into a vat of skin-contact riesling to continue fermenting together (there’s a shot of the piquette byproduct they make from the it, the Free Your Mind Lite, mixed with umeboshi plums and Oaxacan hibiscus, getting punched down as well) . Issamu and Andrew are great guys making really fun wines. They’re also doing their part to bring JNCO jeans back. Wholeheartedly recommend keeping an eye out for their wines at your local natural shop.
