What a wild ride.
It’s going to take me a while to fully process the experience I’ve just had and to the tally the lessons I learned along the way.
First and foremost, I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to this project, whether it was through your donations, logistical support, or by sending me love and encouragement along the way. None of this would have been possible without you. With sincerity and deep gratitude, I thank you all so very much. The community that surrounds me astounds me every damn time.
As for the trip itself, I’d say I was very fortunate with the weather and I had only two days out of thirteen where Mother Nature really showed me her teeth. I feel that I made the smartest possible decisions in those scenarios that ultimately kept me moving forward and out of danger. I left my ego at the door and constantly reminded myself that the only thing that mattered was coming home safely.
I meticulously planned this journey for over a year and all of the preparation, both physically and logistically, really paid off. This was my first long distance, multi day expedition and I’m quite proud of myself for how well it went. Side note, I only started kayaking in April...
The primary goal for undertaking this endeavour was to put my own environmental education philosophy to the test to better understand the emotional learning capacity of adventures and expeditions. I’ll be writing a full article about my findings in the coming weeks after I’ve had a chance to unpack all of the learnings I accrued along the way. I look forward to sharing that with you soon.
As for the numbers, I paddled from Burlington, Ontario to Montreal, a total of 625 km in 141 hours, and raised $5,484 for the YMCA Pointe St-Charles youth perseverance programs. I feel very honored and privileged to be able to use my love of adventure to make an impact on the lives of the disadvantaged youth in our community.
Again, thank you all for your love and support. You were all instrumental to my success and I greatly appreciate everything you all did to help this project come to fruition and to see me right through to the finish.
I’m gonna go take another nap now. ✌️ ❤️
