Highlights from the National Action Network 12th Annual Triumph Awards.
The Triumph Awards is a cultural event that recognizes influencers for their ongoing work within their communities to promote social, racial, and economic justice in America. This year’s ceremony came at an especially crucial moment for civil rights in the United States: violent hate crimes against Black Americans are on the rise; protections under the 1965 Voting Rights Act face their greatest threat in nearly 60 years; and a woman’s right to choose is being taken away across the country. This year’s honorees have positively impacted our society by bridging their celebrity with their community to raise awareness of these mounting injustices. The six honorees including QuestLove, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Will Packer, the creators of #HarlemWeek, Vincent Hughes, and Claire Sulmers now join a roster of historic leaders, entertainers, and advocates who have fought for a more just, equitable society: Vice President Kamala Harris, Tyler Perry, Angela Basset, John Legend, Queen Latifah, and Spike Lee.
