“People don’t know how to approach baby loss. When someone says his name it means everything because it means he’s not forgotten. He was only here for a short time physically, but he’s still my son.” Raj and his wife Sharan had always wanted a family. After 3 years of trying for a baby, they were referred for fertility treatment and lucky enough for it to work first time. Here, Raj shares the story of his son, Riaan, who was born in April 2020 but sadly passed away just 7 months later. During his short life, Riaan bravely overcame being diagnosed with 2 holes in his heart and hearing loss. Seeing him overcome so much helped give Raj and Sharan the strength to support each other through the most difficult of times: “We’ve learned so much from him, he was so strong, how can we not be?” Raj is one of the dads helping with our #InThisWithYou campaign to raise awareness of baby loss and the impact it can have on a partner’s mental health.
