buzzing to share these portraits I made of my sweet friend @mimizhuxiyuan for the @latimes in celebration of the upcoming release of their book, “Be Not Afraid of Love.” Being paired with Mimi felt so serendipitous. We’ve known each other for several years now and I’ve always been struck by how comfortable I’ve felt around them. We’re both queer Asian immigrants from Australia, both with complex relationships to that country, our families, and survivors of abusive environments. We’ve both navigated this country’s immigration systems together and I’m so proud to succeed alongside them. When I think of Mimi, I see the ways they continuously give themselves to the earth and us so we took a little trip out to the beach to breathe fresh air and bask in the glow of sun down.
