No amount of effort (no matter how large or small) goes unnoticed to our body. Think of it like a house plant. Never disappointed and ALWAYS appreciative of a thorough watering and a touch of sunlight. I’ve recently been hard on myself because I’ve fallen off my routine of Pilates 5 days a week. And it’s given me all the feels. Complacency, inadequacy, frustration with Self... My previous internal dialogue: “Come on Leah!! What’s wrong with you? Stop being lazy! Why are so you tired all the sudden? Just wake up earlier and workout! You’re supposed to be setting a good example for others who look to you for guidance and motivation. Also...you’re losing your muscle and getting soft.” My current internal dialogue: “You are healing. Your body is asking for more rest and YOU are listening. You can’t give what you don’t have and you’ve been doing that for months now. Your body is requesting change and you can return when you’re ready. You want to set a good example? Tell ‘em. Show them that it’s okay to show up however they can and celebrate the tiny efforts they make each day. This is the kindness/compassion you show others, why not yourself? You’re doing awesome.✨” Our efforts ebb during the different seasons of life, which never stops, slows down, or takes it easy on us. Life is NOT like a box of chocolates because we can’t separate out the pieces we don’t like. Life is like water. We can resist but it continues to flow. It’s soft, gentle, warm, and inviting. It’s also frigid, powerful, unforgiving, and turbulent. Best to stay in the inevitable currents and grab a life vest for those rowdy bits. Note: the life vest is love, self acceptance, joy, gratitude, and hope. I’m coming back into a place of prioritizing my body and mental health, and it starts with the small efforts. Movement is a privilege and I recognize this may not be a small effort for many. Show up how you can. I don’t want to take my abilities for granted, so I’ll move how I can.
