How can you trust what you’re reading?
Misinformation is rampant online, and a lack of digital literacy has resulted in the spread of false claims and sometimes dangerous information. How to tell if you can trust a source? Start with SIFT:
S - Stop. Ask yourself “Do I trust this website or source?” “Who wrote this?” “When was it published?”
I - Investigate the Source. Check the expertise and agenda of the author and publication.
F - Find Better Coverage. If the quality of the source you have found does not adequately answer your questions, find a different more qualified source. Consult multiple sources, too, especially on more controversial topics.
T - Trace. It is important to go back to the original source to understand the full context.
