Compelling and cleverly written.
Beginning with quite an explosive start, you get a good feeling for the book going forward. The first few chapters highlights the attention to detail and perfect description that continues throughout.
Although the first few chapters are quite 'full on' the book steadies, falling into a decent progressive pace.
I've never read a James Bond novel before, only seen the films. However, I definitely felt a bond like essence coming through.
The connection and past between Bashir and Harwood was great to read. Their duty vs personal affection really shone through.
Overall.
A fresh take on a massive franchise. Sherwood has took the premise of Bond and ran. Although I've never read a Bond book before this one, Double or Nothing has delicately took the brand and brought it to a new era. The 00 agents felt so well established it's hard to believe they were not already fully immersed into the series already.
I'm excited to see what comes next..
