La MaMa has provided an emergency residency to exiled Russian stage director Dimitry Krymov (@krymovlabnyc), blacklisted by the Russian government following his public rebuke of its invasion of Ukraine. The residency will see the director helming two workshop productions with American casts. Running December 9–22, the workshops will be performed in rep. “Onegin (In Our Own Words)” is adapted from the classic Alexander Pushkin novel about four Russian immigrants. “The Americans” will combine two short stories by Ernest Hemingway with Eugene O'Neill's “Desire Under the Elms” to explore American patriarchy.
