A keen supporter of classical music, painting and dance, in 1967 Her Majesty The Queen opened our Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room. Within a short concert to mark the occasion, she heard Sir Arthur Bliss’ River Music, conducted by Benjamin Britten, and specially commissioned for the occasion.
