Why is she doing that? Extreme weather events, conflict and rising costs have driven millions of people in need of humanitarian assistance in South Sudan. In the past three years, record floods have washed away entire villages, destroyed livelihoods and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. WFP is piloting a sustainable fuel solutions programme in South Sudan using water hyacinth, providing production models to transform it into bioenergy that can support families with cheap, affordable access to safer sustainable fuel and offer an income generating opportunity to bring to market.
