What do you get when you combine an epic roof-crack splitting an arch, crack gloves, knee pads, a bat hang and a 360?!? “Mkhulu” (V11/5.14-) might actually mean something akin to ‘epic’ in the local language. The FA of this 15-meter roof crack was done by South African developer and friend Joe Möhle (@brushaholicsanonymous). It is SO fun. The crux comes right at the end of this beast and the easiest beta I could find involved a 360!!! A little backstory: a week before I left rocklands 11 years ago on my first trip I met Joe and he brought me to this really cool 5.12 finger crack at the coop which I ended up onsighting the first repeat of on one of my last days. Then just a couple weeks ago, I ran into him again at the Travelers Rest Farmstall and he told me about Mkhulu, which he put up in the last couple years. I guess Joe bringing me to cracks he’s established at the end of my trip is a tradition now! Thanks for putting up this killer line and for dragging pads and spotting me on the 2nd ascent, dude! Can’t wait to see what you uncover next year. — @sendclimbing @ocun.climbing @madrockclimbing — 📽: @kaddilehmann
