Hospice by @theantlers is probably one of the top albums that have shaped my formative years in terms of musical biography. It tells the story of a relationship between a hospice worker and a terminal bone cancer patient, the romance that ensues and their slow downward spiral due to the patient's trauma, fears and illness. The story is also a metaphor for an abusive relationship, whereby you find yourself loving someone else to the point of exhaustion, but fate requires you to be the bigger person. I remember comparing the album to a novel and always listening to it in its entirety, as one should never skip a chapter in a book. Not only was it eerily beautiful, and painfully human, to this day, I still wonder what it means to compare someone to a "hurricane thunderclap".
Last June, I had the chance to speak to Peter Silberman from the @theantlers and take some portraits before their show in Toronto.
