Led by the talented and innovative Amy Gilman, Director of the Chazen Museum of Art, this piece was acquired in 2018. “Untitled #1378 (Zelda Fitzgerald),” 1997-2013, is of course named after writer Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. With her bold and free-spirited personality, Fitzgerald was considered the embodiment of the American Jazz Age. Enclosed inside a pristine glass vitrine is a cast-wax statuary figure that can be glimpsed beneath a cloak of pearls, candles, hand-dipped wax flowers, and cast-wax hands. This richly layered sculpture parallels the multifaceted personality of its namesake.
