As of this morning, the Mosquito wildfire in Northern California has burned down 76, 290 acres of land, at only 49% containment after three weeks of activity. In 2021, California wildfires burned over 2.2 million acres of land, the carbon emissions equivalent of over 16 million gas powered vehicles driven in one year. And in 2022 alone, California has already experienced 6,456 wildfires, burning over 350,000 acres of land.
To illustrate the devastation of this near-constant phenomenon in California and wildfires’ effects on climate change, we’ve released the film “I Love You, California” with @fridaysforfutureusa . Featuring a powerful yet somber cover of the California State song by our very own Jr. Art Director and California native @kikiyomee , we hope you’ll be inspired by this film to help us save the rest of our state’s beautiful landscape — and fast. Fridays for Future’s annual Global Climate Strike takes place on September 23, and participating cities can be found at www.fridaysforfutureusa.org.
