The moorhens feet look as sharp as talons 😳 Despite being water fowl they aren't very good swimmers, they dont have webbed feet like other species do. Where Moorhens come into their own is among the reeds and on the bank of the river/pond. Their enormous feet can be used to grab onto the reeds, or to walk on top of just about anything on the surface of the river/pond! Id like to say this image was planned out or that i had it in mind but that's far from the truth. I happen to be photographing some Mallards at water level and just beside me was a rock. On top of the rock was this Moorhen. Moorhens have always been a tricky subject to photograph for me. So i jumped at the opportunity to photograph one up close! I dont think ive ever been this close to one where it actually stays still long enough. As i was getting some close up head shots i quickly noticed its raised gigantic foot hanging below. I thought it would be interesting to capture a few images of it, ever since i took the Mallard feather photos I've always tried to look at capturing more detailed images of birds. I've actually photographed feet of different birds before, heron, cormorant and even Mallards.... Hopefully this doesn't turn into some weird animal foot obsession 😂
