Let's be honest: Social media makes us feel like we're doing it wrong sometimes. Yesterday I was really annoyed by the idea of going for a run. Throughout my algorithm, all I saw was super bubbly, happy runners and for a moment, I was a baby hater. Realistically I know a great deal of the people that I follow and had to remind myself why I was annoyed by their feel good moment. It wasn't about them and more about what's going on with me. I was in a shit mood and in turn, I was looking for ANY REASON to stay home. All I kept seeing were my happy friends running like everything is sweet. Thankfully, I'm logical and know that these folks DO have bad days, even if I'm not seeing them. This is not to say I want them to display their bad days. Instead I want to validate my humanity and all of our humanity when we look at these apps highlighting seconds, minutes and fractions of hours. We're not entitled to every quaking moment of someone's life or training. If you feel yourself having a moment, self reflect. Is this really about their joy or are you overwhelmed by the possibility of being your own disappointment? I spoke about this in my therapy session today. It felt good talking things out and acknowledging that I do a lot outside of running and some days, I'm truly burnt tf out. If you got it in today, that's wonderful. If not, that's dope too. And if your fave is always smiling on social and you're tapping into your inner Oscar the Grouch cuz they're not "keeping it real" enough for you, perhaps you need to take a step back for a minute to keep it honest for yourself.
