When Georges Mauboussin became an apprentice in 1877 like so many #jewellers before him, he kept it in the family by joining Noury his uncle’s company which had grown from a simple workshop in Paris. He applied himself to the creative side of things, studying #artanddesign . By 1883 he was running the #workshop and he bought the company in 1898. His son Pierre joined him and by the #1920s they were being celebrated for their magnificent #artdecojewelry , winning a gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs. These wonderful #pearlanddiamond earrings as posted by @gemilybarber created in the #1930s are pure Mauboussin and are coming up for auction this week at @bonhamsjewels in London. I mention them because as Britain comes to a stand still today for The Queen’s funeral, I’m reminded of how much she loved diamonds and pearls. These may have been too dangly for her but they are fit for a Queen. Queen Nazil of Egypt and The Maharaja of Indore were regular clients at Mauboussin, commissioning astounding suites. And so as we say goodbye to our Queen today, I shall be wearing my pearls in homage.
