Riding a bike for 36hrs in a Big5 game reserve was nerve-wracking, especially when the sun went down and I had to face my fears through a long cold night. High speed technical descending with the possibility of colliding with an elephant was no joke to manage - 40 times up and 40 times down a winding, loose 5km mountain road. I remember hearing the rangers talking to each other on their two way radios at midnight saying lions had moved into the area not too far from our top base camp. After 24 hrs of riding I’d never been so glad to see the sun rise even though I still had another 12 hrs of riding up and down that dam climb ahead of me.
