They share their thoughts behind their most memorable photo. @crystalvanderweit: Having been born and raised in south Florida, I have been through my fair share of hurricanes, Andrew in 1992, Frances, Jeanne and Ivan in 2004, but during all my experiences I was never in the direct path nor had seen the firsthand damage. For those in Ian's path, it was truly a devastating, life-altering storm. I started my helicopter trip from Fort Pierce towards Arcadia where I witnessed how Peace River flooded neighborhoods and roads—trapping people in their homes. We headed towards Sanibel and then made our way down the coast towards Fort Myers Beach. Ian's size, storm surge and rain flattened, flooded entire neighborhoods. What I felt when I was photographing and feel now is that any word used to describe what happened on the West Coast would be an understatement.
