This year, many of us may have felt as though our lives have been in flux. Be it through grief — of loved ones, of old lives, or of parts of ourselves lost to the pandemic — or other battles, making it to the 359th day of the year is one that hasn't been easy for us all. And while for a time we will be feeding you little but holiday inspiration, today we leave something to those for whom this period may be a little more difficult.
In December 1974, Harper's BAZAAR published a guide to navigating holiday loneliness; to sitting with and making peace with the complex emotions that flow in when you feel unhappy during a time that is 'supposed' to be the happiest. The advice from nearly 50 years ago is still relevant today, perhaps even more so.
Read the piece from the archives through the link in bio, and a note for those who may seek its reprieve; Merry Christmas and we hope the new year offers peace and an abundance of understanding. This too shall pass.
