As we work to restore the Ka‘amola ahupua‘a one of our main focus areas is the reef, which is a critical part of our traditional food systems. In speaking to residents of Ka‘amola, we have heard stories of the reef here being full of limu ‘ele‘ele. Unfortunately in recent decades the sediment runoff caused by erosion has damaged the reef and prevents native limu from growing. Thanks to the ingenuity and dedication of our team, we have been successfully growing limu ‘ele‘ele in off-grid tanks, preparing to restock the reef and bring back this food source to our pond.
