I'm sharing my review of Marion Lane and the Deadly Rose by T. A. Willberg today, as part of the Compulsive Readers book tour. 🌹The envelope was tied with three delicate silk ribbons: "One of the new recruits is not to be trusted..." A killer haunts the streets of London in 1959. Dubbed The Florist by the papers, this killer brands his victims with a rose. The police are at a loss and turn to the Inquirers at Miss Brickett's for assistance, and second year Marion Lane is assigned the case. Marion has already received a letter warning her that one of the new recruits at Miss Brickett's should not be trusted. She doesn't take the letter too seriously, but when one of her fellow Inquirers is murdered she realises that she mustn't dismiss this communication. Everyone at Miss Brickett's is a suspect. 🌹This is the second in the Marion Lane series - the first being Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder. I have not had the chance to read the first in the series but this book fills in any blanks a reader who hasn't read the first book may have. This was a really entertaining read, full of intrigue and mystery. There were a whole host of suspects and I really enjoyed all the magical instruments and gadgets. The world was immersive and Marion was a really interesting character. If you're after a quirky detective series set in a strange and extraordinary magical world you can't go wrong with this. It gave off real Harry Potter vibes, which I loved, but with a slightly more grown up feel. I will certainly be reading the first in the series because I would love to read about Marion's earlier exploits. Marion Lane and the Deadly Rose is out now.
