Cancer is not sexy, in no way shape or form... but that does not mean that you can no longer be or feel sexy and confident in yourself. Many underestimate the effects of what a breast cancer diagnosis can do to your self esteem. Then add in hair loss, surgeries and scars, and for some complete loss of one or more breasts. Adding in early menopause can be the icing on the cake. For me initially it was completely demoralising and I felt as though I had lost my femininity at 38 years old and that I was not really supposed to be pretty or sexy or confident again because that didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I mean people would think I was quite vain right?!?? Wrong. I was so wrong. Just because hardly anyone else was talking about it or the fact that the media can tend to portray everyone with cancer as being bald, frail and sad doesn’t mean WE actually have to be. So much we do look to the media for what is defined as “beautiful” or “feminine” and you do not tend to see port-a-cath scars or mastectomy scars or models with prosthetic breasts etc... but we should. Because people younger and younger are getting breast cancer 1 in 2 of us will be effected by cancer in our lifetime More and more people are having preventative mastectomies due to having BRCA1/2 So this is tour reminder that no matter what you and your body have been through.. it doesn’t mean that you cannot still feel good about yourself and your body! It is your choice and no one else’s. You do not have to choose between one or the other. And if anyone tells you otherwise... send them my way😂 So what do you think? Can you have both? Why or why not?
