On the night of my first interstate book tour, I was barely recovering from a meltdown that had happened an hour prior after an incredibly big week and unexpected yucky events; leaving me feeling drained, self conscious and that tiny little voice filling my ears with ‘you’re not worthy of being here tonight.’ But, I put on the dress and pressed the sparkles into place, and put that mask on that I have worn for 25 years... As soon as I walked into that room and I saw 100 of you stimming, chatting, wearing flower crowns and sparkles, and all making friends with each other, my mask fell, and the happiness that encompassed my body was entirely mine, and I immediately knew I was going to be okay. I was with my people. Sydney, you were so, so magical. Thank you for coming to see me, thank you for finding comfort in my book, thank you for opening your hearts to me, thank you for the squishmallows and the art and the letters and for sharing your eye sparkles with me. Thank you for being a part of my fairytale, and allowing me to play a sprinkle in yours. It was a dream come true to spend my night with you all.
