These photos are 12 years apart. I make sure to remind myself to check in...with myself. More specifically- my younger self. The self that believed anything was possible and you could achieve it all while still maintaining your passion. The self that believed you could win by playing fairly even if the competition doesn't. The self that wasn't weathered by life's trials that try to/will dampen that whimsical belief that dreams can continue once you wake up. I check in to make sure that younger me is proud of who he's become and excited about who he will end up being after all is said and done. Recently, I thought about how my younger self would not believe all that's happened. All the great as well as the bad. And at the same time he wouldn't be at all surprised, because he believed that anything was possible. I today, like my younger self back then, still believe. As hard as it gets sometimes. As much as the world around me tries to discourage it. I believe in the possibility of the impossible because 21 year old me could only imagine the journey ahead until 33 year old me checked in to let him know "we did that".
