Spies are discrete - they have to be to survive. And there are usually very little information available that the spy leaves in the public domain. That's definitely the case for Hercules Mulligan - there are no paintings or depictions of HM the man. However, there is a painting of Sir Charles Carroll of Carrollton - an Irish-American politician, planter, and signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He was the only Catholic signatory and the last surviving signatory of the Declaration of Independence, dying 56 years after signing the document. Why is Sir Charles Caroll of Carrollton relevant? Because if you search on-line for a painting or depiction of Hercules Mulligan, you'll usually find this painting of Sir Charles Carroll instead. Why? We have no idea. It may have been a mistake from someone on Wikipedia - or it may be HM's continued strides to obfuscate his identity. #HerculesMulligan #spylife #complexity #underground #StandForSomething #rumandrye #newyorkcity #tailorspydrinksmith #nirvana #nevermind
