Had a really lovely 24 hours in Calgary. It’s a town we’d usually see once a year, but we haven’t set foot here since Feb 2019. In the past three years, the world often seems more disparate than ever before. So many arts communities that existed pre-pandemic which had offered some sense of community have languished for a bunch of good reasons, and have been replaced by virtual ones that sometimes feel harder to navigate. (Atleast for millennials. Ha!) There’s a radio station here in town called @x929calgary that we’ve had a great relationship with over the years. And it’s not just because they play our songs, but because they’ve built a relationship with local listeners here that encourage folks to not only tune in, but to do stuff in real life. We’ve done events with them on the train - cramming 150 people on the Ctrain for a big sing-a-long. We did a weekend in Banff with them over halloween. Today we did an event in the sky tower for contest winners. We told stories about the @MichaelBuble concert we saw last night. We performed Teenage Tears for the first time ever, in honour of local heros @teganandsara. And a local woman named Nikki offered to play Fiddle on Quitting You, so she did just that. We feel lucky that we get to tour right now. Most folks in the music industry - especially on the concert side- will tell you it’s still a very difficult time. Every act is touring at once, supply chain is making touring expensive, and blah blah blah. Point is the problems are real and we’re feeling very blessed anytime anyone buys a ticket for our show. Because we know how hard it is out there. So it kind of blows us away that our Halifax one was our biggest one yet, and it’s looking like a bunch of the Western Canadian shows will be our biggest draw ever. We don’t take that for granted for a second. The songs and the show are what guide us. And you coming out to sing a long is what allows us to bring it all home. Can’t wait to be back in Calgary.
