Okra is a great summertime crop to add to your garden. It produces with minimal water and seems to produce more the hotter it gets making it an excellent choice for Houston summers. One thing I love about growing okra is the ability to interplant with okra. The giant leaves provide a shaded area and a great place to plant your tomatoes or other crops so they can get a head start on fall production, all while being shaded from the sun's harsh summer rays. To plant this okra, I used the @Fiskars Soil Block Maker. The @Fiskars Soil Block Maker creates seed-starting soil blocks, which produce healthier seedlings and reduce the need for disposable seed starter trays and pods.
