Client ready to embrace their salt + pepper? 🩶
Here are just a few tips:
âž–The finer the foils, the more natural the finishâž–
Remember you are trying to mimic their natural. I like to take really finely stranded highlights but go heavy with it. This will give a really diffused result and will remain soft even as the hair grows out.
âž–Smoky lowlightsâž–
Don’t forget the “pepper”! Adding in some FINELY sliced smoky lowlights if needed can help maintain some dimension so they don’t become too white (unless thats what they’re goin for). My favorite to use is 6T/6NA with 10volume from @redkenpro SEQ.
➖Don’t forget the vibrancy➖
The biggest struggle with creating an artificial yet natural looking gray of any kind is maintaining the vibrancy and making sure the shade lasts. Add a touch of YELLOW to your formulas (sounds scary I know). This will help ensure your color still reflects light + it will act as a backbone for the color so it lasts a bit longer.
âž–Pay attention to their naturalâž–
How someone naturally goes gray varies person to person! It’s common for the “salt” to be more concentrated towards the face or in pockets in the front while the “pepper” is more towards the crown to the back. I like to base my pattern of where I place my highs vs. lows based off of how it’s naturally growing in. This will change with each person!
