Getting ‘through’ the winter is all about what you make of it. I used to get so sad when the days got shorter and all the layers started pilling on… But then I moved somewhere (Long Island) even colder than where I’m from (Philly). Living on this beautiful island jutting out into the ocean that’s known for the Hamptons, boating, and insane summers — the same one that gives us wind and rain and snow and 2-seasons-in-one-day weather patterns — I’ve learned to LOVE winter, not just embrace it. That looks like: ☕️ signing up for a coffee advent calendar so I have something to look forward to each morning this month 🔦 getting a headlamp so I can take walks in the dark (aka anytime after 3:30pm lol)
✨ taking advantage of the crisp, clear sky to see so many stars + planets in our backyard each night 🥽 getting infrared night goggles so I can see all the owls hooting every night in my backyard 📚 leaning in to what makes this season great: more time to read, making hot cocoa before an afternoon meeting, and drinking my weight in tea Winter comes around each year. We can make it fun or make it miserable. I’m choosing fun (thanks to @sejsejlija who inspires me every single day with not just how she ‘tolerates’ the conditions where she lives on Svalbard, but how she actually sees them as positive opportunities). ❄️ What’s your favorite thing about this cozy season?! I want to know! Xo, Sam
