“Aute Cuture” @rosalia.vt x @maccosmetics Director: @jorafrantzis Producer: @anneliesekristedja ProDesign: @frau.juliawagner Gaffer: @theteejmeister Key Grip: @john.shim3 1st AC: @coltonhuynh Jora x Rosalia is one of my favorite duos, and to get the opportunity to collaborate with them is always special. Approach: Jora had a very bold concept and look for this project, and I love getting to work within this “Glamour-Noir” world that she creates. Contrast is key, and finding the right composition of movement within the set design is an exploration. Sometimes it all falls into place effortlessly, and at other times it takes turning every light off in succession until you’re down to one. Every lights color, quality or value is always under tough scrutiny. Here we had to find the balance of tones, and make subtle saturation or color shifts of each light to help create a spectrum or illusion of saturation in real time. Our vanity set was pink, and we never wanted it to be too pink so we had to find the best mixture of value and saturation, while still highlighting talent, and keeping the colors subdued for our palette. The Moon: A note on the bedroom set is when using a translight, keep in mind lighting the backing in different ways to add dimension or shape. We had a light perfectly set just to change the color or brightness of the moon, that was independent of the rest of the sky. Vanity Rig: A “moving light” on the move?? I was relieved when my crew heard this idea and didn’t walk off the set. I use moving lights for almost everything, and I’m very grateful that our New York crew was cool with this application of one. I love the sculpting aspect of a mover, and when talent is performing, you need to be able to adjust the head subtlety to keep the light focused in the right place. I’m not sure how heavy this rig was, but bravo team!! 🥀🪞💅🏽🛏💃🏽 🌘
