The gallery will close for the Holiday weekend today at 3pm, and reopen to the public on Tuesday, November 29. The painting pictured above is part of Everlyn Nicodemus' series, “The Wedding,”executed between 1991 and 1992, in which Nicodemus' own body takes center stage. The series comprises of 84 large-scale self-portraits that represent a ballad about the experience of meeting and fighting death and returning to life after the artist's own breakdown. For Nicodemus, returning to life meant reoccupation of her body, which had been obliterated by prior traumas. In order to make this pictorial representation tangible, Nicodemus consistently worked at larger scales as the series progressed. “The Wedding" is on view in our 394 Broadway space through December 21.
