When it opened in 2018, Marvel’s “Black Panther” smashed box office records and made history by earning seven Oscar nominations and winning three. But the highly anticipated sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” will represent something much different: the collective efforts of a tightly knit family of filmmakers working under unimaginably difficult circumstances. In 2020, the franchise’s lead actor, Chadwick Boseman, died of colon cancer. After cameras finally started rolling on the sequel, the production was derailed again when its new star, Letitia Wright, suffered devastating injuries on set, putting the shoot on hold for several months. In this week’s cover story, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” director Ryan Coogler and actors Wright and Angela Bassett open up about working on the film in the wake of tragedy, continuing to honor Boseman’s legacy and finally seeing, in Coogler’s words, “the light at the end of the tunnel.” Read it now at the link in our bio. (📸: Art Streiber)
