A mutual friend had recommended me to him for this concert he was doing. Michael reached out via email and sent me a bunch of clips of songs he had written, but wanted to meet up and get to know each other ahead of the performance. The reason why he was vetting me was because up until that point he had had a lot of actors cancel on him or drop out of his concerts because they weren’t comfortable singing his material. They didn’t want to ruffle any feathers, or maybe they weren’t in a place where they were ready to confront or deal with where they were at with their sexuality. I didn’t give a fuck though.” What will you miss most about your time with #StrangeLoopBway? “Always the people. I’m going to miss the superhuman feeling of doing the opening number with those 6 people. Being a star in that specific constellation is really special. It’s never going to feel like that again. We are the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” What do you think will be the most emotional moment of the final #StrangeLoopBway performance? “The second those opening chimes start! I’ve already accepted the fact that as soon as those lights go up, I’m going to have to be okay with the fact that there will be tears. The vocals are going to be shady and it’s not going to be a good performance. It’tl be an eventful performance and a momentous occasion, but my show is going to be trash. It’s not going to be worth the ticket price because I’m going to be crying!” What do you hope the legacy of #StrangeLoopBway will be? “I hope this show can help pave the way for other art that provides safe, audacious spaces and opportunities for people who aren’t typically placed at the forefront of their industry/craft. I hope other artists can find validation and freedom in it and learn more about themselves by doing this piece.”
