BOOK REVIEW 🗣: “Queenie” by Candice Carty-Williams stressed me the f*ck out, but it was worth it 💯. This book kept me reading long into the night; filled me with compassion, frustration, and sorrow for our main character Queenie; & left me laughing and cringing at the deeply complicated nature of humanity. At times, it hurt me to read about Queenie’s heartache & the messy & brutal situations she found herself in because she kept thinking that sex with these awful men would lead to love. I wanted to shake her & say “you are worth more than this sis”!! Ultimately, I fell in love with Queenie & her support group — especially her girl Kyazike and Jamaican grandparents. Author @candicec_w’s writing is clever & honest & addresses so much: from dealing with anxiety to complicated families to learning how to love yourself.
