Black sand sculpture, "Untitled #676 (Shaggy Dog)," 1990, belongs to the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, @mcasandiego. The sculpture was acquired in 1992 from a solo show in New York at Diane Brown Gallery with the aid of the Contemporary Collectors Fund. It was first shown in another solo exhibition, “Installation by Petah Coyne,” at the @umassdartmouthgalleries (formerly Southeastern Massachusetts University), curated by the director Lasse Antonsen.
The unusual materials — a catalytic converter, pounded chicken wire, black sand (a by -product of pig iron casting), and shredded cars, among other things — incorporated into “Untitled #676 (Shaggy Dog),” 1990, make the piece especially unique in appearance.
"Untitled #676 (Shaggy Dog)," 1990, has been in two group exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. The first exhibition, “Contemporary Collectors,” in 1992 showcased works acquired with funds from the Contemporary Collectors donor group, and the second exhibition, “Pleasure Point: Celebrating 25 Years of Contemporary Collectors,” took place in 2010.
