Have you ever heard of lotus flower mooncakes? I was first introduced to these by @eatingglab last year and followed the instructions on Cuts and Chops’ YouTube video to make these. The petals are made from a laminated dough similar to the thousand layer mooncakes crust, but instead of exposing all the layers in a spiral pattern on the outside, sweetened coconut filling is wrapped in the homemade pastry dough which is then cut open and deep fried to set the shape. As you can see, I had a hard time getting the mooncakes to “bloom” consistently, but I guess that makes them look more natural, haha. I have to admit, these are prettier than they are tasty, but it’s a fun project for a rainy day. 🌙 🪷 🥮
