Have you tried the heavily peated, Islay-grown, Port Charlotte SC:01 yet? Would you also put it up there, with the best of our cask explorations? Let us know in comments!

Port Charlotte SC: 01 is the sixth release in the Cask Exploration series. We were able to enjoy the "apple pie" of Cognac, Oloroso, Bordeaux, Marsala barrels and French wine from the Paulliac district. This time the finish was Sauternes barrels...
Cask exploration, 100% Islay, 40PPM, 9YO, 55.2% ABV, and no cold filtration or artificial colour...
Nose: herbal, slightly floral, salty, pleasantly peaty. Some apples seasoned with cloves, melon and dissolved sugar appear here.
Tongue: oily, consistent with the nose. I also find here vanilla sweetness with a hint of toffee and ripe fruit. Added to this are tobacco and leathery accents.
Finish: long, a little astringent, caramel-sweet, but with clear touches of moist earth.
The MRC: 01 edition still ranks first in my personal ranking, but the SC: 01 jumps to the podium with the number 2. It is a well-balanced whiskey, easily drinkable, and because of its oilyness it is even smooth in reception. I feel like it will have to be doubled.
