I don’t have time to be taking things personal anymore. I have things to do, goals I’m reaching! I cannot be walking around thinking that people’s behaviors is about me. Ok, tough love this morning: If you’ve been taking everything people do very personal and you don’t know how to stop. Here’s where you can start: the things people do can’t possibly always be about you. The way people perceive things, the actions they take and the words they say start with them, not you. These start from a place within their mind that existed way before you came into the picture. You must practice imagining that people have a life, past experiences, frustrations and lessons that had and have nothing to do with you. The best way I found to not take things personal is to address my own desire to make everything about me, when it often isn’t. When I started to look around me, I saw that I was taught to make things about me. I have parents who do that often. Now that I understand the thought pattern that was pass down to me, I can rewrite it by imagining people living their life; imagining them thinking their own thoughts and being the character in their own movie, before I react to the things they say and do. I choose to remember that we’re all reacting to a story happening in our head, not to me nor to you specifically. I hope this helps!
