The Great Beyond A collaboration by @heykelseyj and me. This image was one of the most difficult to create that either of us have captured. Deep in the jungle, we arrived at the cenote and knew we only had a small window of time to get the shot, a ray of light beaming through the top of the cavern, as a storm was quickly approaching. Under pressure, I quickly secured my camera in the underwater-housing while Kelsey practiced her freediving. We descended beneath the surface and were blinded by the beauty of a light beam piercing through the water. After our first attempt at the photo, we heard a roar of thunder, saw a bright flash of lightning and had to swim out of the water as fast as we could. The light beam had vanished and the cenote went dark. We checked the camera and to our disbelief, realized we had managed to capture the fleeting moment we had been imagining for weeks. A light in the darkness from the great beyond.
