To tell you the truth this song has been lost on my horizons for a while- to have it boomeranged back, reimagined by this amazing, extremely talented woman is so precious. Kootchi was written with my good friend Cia Berg. In those days, Cia was in a Swedish band called Whale. They were hanging out and working with Cam at our place in Spain, where we were living in those days. I was recording with Tricky so he was there too, also working on album that we be never released (it needs to be one day, but that’s another story). Anyway... Tricky and I were working in a shed lent to us by some neighbours hanging off a hillside; the mic stand out in the yard, that’s where we did the vocals. Cia and I recorded the original version with Tricky and Mark Saunders in the dark with the shed owners Great Dane dog trying to mount Cia all the way through. It was taller than her standing up, with his paws on her shoulders, we were absolutely shook trying sing and control the dog at the same time haha. The lyrics "All I want to do is Kootchi Koo with you" was born after a few wines in conversation between myself Cia and Tricky. It made us laugh so much that we made a song. The first version had the two of us singing but later it was just me, which was the version that made the 'Man' album. John Baptiste Mondino directed the video, making it the 3rd one we made together. It’s a history thats now made a very new story as it should do moving forward looking ahead 🌿🌿🌿
