@waltcassidy, otherwise known as “Waltpaper,” is a New York City-based artist who is most known as a fixture of the Club Kids scene in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Widely considered to be the first influencers, the Club Kids were a group of dance club personalities in Downtown Manhattan that used drugs, dressing up, and ritualizing to make their imprint on not only the club scene, but pop culture in general. After the scene collapsed in the late ‘90s, Cassidy continued to make a name for himself. Deemed an artist from birth, he met with ODDA to talk about creating his book of nightlife photos “New York: Club Kids,” creating “Walt Cassidy Studio,” and continuing to model the world and legacy of “Waltpaper,” alongside his close collaborator @chloessevigny.
"The Club Kids parties from 1990 to 1994 were absolutely phenomenal, so gorgeous and ecstatic. It felt like a distinctive moment in history, akin to Babylon or Ancient Rome. I was sensitive to that historical aspect of that experience."
