QUICK UPDATE: So many people have asked me how Miss Toni is doing but I have been waiting to give a report because it’s all been one big gray area. Here is what I know... Unfortunately, she has stage 4 kidney disease. Her kidney level was 7 something and it has come down to 5 something (wish I could be more specific but these phone calls are always an emotional fact/number-packed blur). They were hoping for much more of a decrease. She weighed 6 pounds last checkup, but only weighed 5 pounds when I brought her in a few days ago. She is still not eating, but she is on glucose and fluids. Fluids are how they treat kidney disease but she also has heart disease and fluids are very bad for that, so they are doing their best. The doctor I spoke to today said she seems a little “brighter” than she was yesterday and she will be spending tonight (her third night) in the hospital. We are just trying to see if she is going to improve and really take a look at and consider her quality of life. I don’t want her to suffer for one second more than she needs to, but I also want to give her a chance. She’s a little fighter. Thank you so much for all the prayers and good thoughts... I am hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.
