Cousin!!! Talked some fun inside baseball cookbook stuff in regards to what else but @thebearfx with @thedeguz of @eater_sf and broke down the glimpse of Carmy’s notable collection - full of easter eggs, some classics, quite a few flexes, and a couple of stumpers. Having worked mostly in fine-dining in my restaurant days, my own personal collection definitely resembles Carmy’s to a certain extent. My old joke is that Michelle and I opened a cookbook shop so I didn’t have to buy anymore cookbooks. 🐻 🐻 🐻 We’ve always chased a sort of grown up 90s indie record store vibe here at the shop since we opened (RIP Other Music). So much so that this mantra from Rob of Nick Hornby’s #highfidelity really said it most insightfully: “You are what you like.” While we won’t go so far as to ask people about their Top 5 cookbooks of all time, we will often approach a guest asking for some thoughtful recommendations with, “tell us what’s on your book shelf and we’ll have a better idea of what kind of cook you are” Additionally, “What kind of places do you like to eat?”, can be pretty helpful too. There’s definitely some major gems in Carmy’s collection which is a nice segue here to let you know that we have been working on bringing a lot more vintage / out-of-print / previously owned / rare titles back onto our own shelves to add a bit more character and texture to contrast with all the newer books. Excited for you to check them out. More on that soon! Linktree in profile to read the article 📚 - Ken
