“DON’T FEAR THE ALIENS, THEY’RE ALREADY HERE...” Our latest campaign for @fridaysforfutureusa , the grassroots network of organizers for climate justice. 🌎
From anti-environment legislation and a lack of federal regulations, to man-made deforestation that devastates natural ecosystems globally, it’s abundantly clear that the humans already living on Earth are far more dangerous to the future of our planet than any aliens could ever be.
Utilizing retro Sci-Fi motifs, “Aliens” depicts four different environments under attack by humans who look eerily similar to the aliens attacking a foreign planet.
1: FOREST
Deforestation caused by humans releases 2.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the air, creating intense temperature swings that kill plants and animals. We must conserve the ecosystems that our Earth relies on most, like the Amazon Rainforest that is protected by frontline Ecuadorian and Brazilian indigenous communities.
2: CARS
An average passenger vehicle emits over 4,000,000 grams of carbon dioxide per year, contributing to 27% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the US. It is time to transition to a global market based on clean and renewable energy. Communities across the globe, especially frontline communities at the edge of the climate crisis, deserve better than our corrupt oil economy.
3: OIL
Nearly 100 million barrels of oil are consumed globally each day, creating 1⁄3 of the world’s total carbon emissions. As President Biden said on Monday, “Everyone stepped up. The oil industry has not. It’s a brutal windfall of war from the conflict ravaging Ukraine and hurting people across the globe.” It is time for Congress to pass a Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax to stop corporate price gouging at the pump.
4: OCEAN
The climate crisis is creating imbalances in marine ecosystems and loss of biodiversity — of critical coral ecosystems that absorb 70 to 90 megatons of carbon annually. Our oceans are the Earth’s largest carbon sink and responsible for producing 70% of the air we breathe. A comprehensive climate action plan requires coordinated ocean conservation at the global level.
