I love these images from @archdigestindia of Bangladeshi architect and model Sobia Ameeen (@sobia93) in fellow architect, Pavitra Rajaram’s (@teaonthebluesofa) Mumbai home. They served so much inspo when shooting my own place. "On a trip to Stockholm in 2016, I chanced upon an exhibition by British photographer Natalie Dybisz, aka Miss Aneila at the Waldemarsudde Museum. I was absolutely fascinated by the show which turned contemporary models into larger-than-life figures amidst tableaux set in stately homes across Europe and the USA. This memory was sparked again when I met Bangladeshi architect and model Sobia Ameen in Mumbai this year, shortly after I first wrote to her on Instagram confessing that I was a fan of her work. Seeing her in my home was just so surreal that we decided to do a spontaneous photoshoot. Sobia just fit so beautifully into my space, and that's when we thought of creating a mise en scène through different spaces in my home. She used her own clothes and my saris, we ran to the flower market in Dadar to get some blooms and used whatever we had at hand as props. We just had a lot of fun with the shoot and well, that's what the spirit of mise en scène is—to take a space and then change up the look and feel of it by introducing surreal elements into the environment and that's how we did it. I played with this idea of Sobia being the object of desire among other objects. She seamlessly fit in without really dominating the frame. As a practicing architect, it is what one learns to do, which is to work with the elements you have to create something seamless which speaks to space and design in a holistic way. Our personal styles work really well together: I am quite maximal and layered in my approach, which was complemented by Sobia’s personality; she is bold, confident and brings that oomph and sexiness with her strong presence and that really suited the mood and the aesthetic in my own home."
