I was having dinner last night with a bunch of fascinating people and we got to talking about our hopes and dreams. How to balance paying the bills and living your best life turned out to be the topic of the evening and we agreed that anything is possible if you find your talent. It can take years though, sometimes a lifetime and many people give up before that happens or they simply slid into a comfortable job and every so often reminisce about that crazy dream that they parked years ago. Sometimes your contribution to the world appears to you later on in life. I started writing seriously at 40 for example. My dear friend Lindsay who passed a few years ago found jewellery late too and it feels like it might be too late to start something but don’t let that stop you because it’s never to late. It comes when you’re ready for it. When I think of all the talent I’ve witnessed, the thought of it never being born at all fills me with horror. It might struggle into the world and feel difficult but birth is never easy. The other thing of course about finding your talent is that it often leads to lots of different strands but people want you to stick to one thing and specialise. I love the variety of curating, writing, public speaking and affecting change where possible and over the years I’ve realised it’s all part of the same thing.
