When my Uncle George was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, it was extremely difficult for my Dad - his brother. They were close and it was heartbreaking to see a flash of vulnerability in the face of the inevitable, followed by the stoicism I think the men in my family adopt in times of hardship. A stoicism which I believe can stand in the way sometimes of saying how you really feel. Producers/writers never really write songs in sessions for themselves, but I wanted to write a song about the above. About regret fuelling a need to drop walls and barriers between the people dear to you and to just hold them, knowing that maybe it could be for the final time. The song just fell out in an hour and today @onlythepoets released it and have given the song an amazing home. ‘Hold Me’ broke my heart a bit, but I am so glad it’s out now. We lost my Uncle George this year, though I hope this song immortalises his and my Dad’s brotherhood. Hug your family and tell them you love them. J
